Although clearly part of Japan, Okinawa has it’s own unique legacy, spoken language, and distinct culture. In the last two decades Okinawan culture has become very popular throughout Japan with the influence of popular musicians and local foods. This beautiful island has the hidden potential of becoming a popularresort destination for people world wide.
Okinawa is subtropical with temperatures even in winter usually above 15°C. This makes the area a popular winter getaway, although much of the time it is cloudy and a bit too cool for the lying on the beach. In last winter and spring Okinawa has an unsettled monsoon season.
Okinawa is the only prefecture in Japan that is predictably subtropical. This makes it a southern paradise where exquisite subtropical flowers bloom the year-round. Okinawa is most certainly a best kept secret in Japan.
Okinawa is now a focus of attention with the restoration of the famous Shurijyo Castle becoming a showcase for the Ryukyu Kingdom.
The island of Okinawa is the largest of more than 140 islands in Okinawa Prefecture of which only 47 are populated. The island is strategically located at a point that is equidistant from Tokyo, Taiwan, Seoul and the Philippines.
